Bulldogs Select Marian Studenič

The Hamilton Bulldogs have selected Slovakian center Marian Studenič with the 11th pick in the 2016 CHL Import Draft.

Draft eligibility – 2017

Studenič was born in the fall of 1998, meaning he missed the eligibility date to be drafted this spring. Why is this important? He’s closer in age to the development cluster of players who will be here for the next 2-3 years, and could be apart of a serious push to be playoff contenders.

Studenič was a valuable offensive leader for the Slovakian teams in primer international tournaments this past calendar year. He played in both the Ivan Hlinka and Under-18s in a featured top six role.

Also expected to play an important role, if not a first line role, is Marian Studenič. He spent the bulk of the season in the nation’s top men’s league and was responsible for eight goals, 16 points, and a -14 rating in 37 games, but gained valuable experience playing the most advanced hockey of anyone on the team.” – Chapin Landvogt, Hockey’s Future (Source)

If you’re paying attention to the import draft, you’ve probably already read the intensive four part prospect series that Mike Mackley has on his site Prospects Hockey. Here’s a snippet of his scouting report, but you should really go and read all of the work he put in this week:

“Marian Studenic is smooth skating, offensive minded winger with developing two-way abilities. A player who shows confidence in possession, Marian Studenic shows deceptively good vision and under the radar playmaking abilities despite excelling a shoot first winger. Studenic skates well displaying a smooth and powerful stride that allows him to generate above average speed. With strong edges and quick hands, Studenic can create space for himself with change of direction abilities an elusive puck movements. A player who protects the puck well on net drives and through traffic, Studenic is a strong decision maker and can make quick and quality reads.” – Mike Mackley, Prospect Hockey (Source)

As he played up within the professional Extraliga league with HK 36, Studenič will be ineligible to play as a rookie in the OHL, just like former Bulldogs import defender Chrisian Mieritz.

Welcome to the Bulldogs Marian!
