New Jersey Devils at #143: Marian Studenič

The New Jersey Devils selected Hamilton Bulldogs winger Marian Studenič in the 5th round of the 2017 NHL Draft with the #143th overall pick. Studenič, a late ’98, was identified as a skilled offensive asset following a productive season in Slovakia’s highest tier of men’s hockey, playing alongside NHL veteran Zigmund Palffy. He brought his dynamic offensive flair to the OHL’s Bulldogs and became a fan favourite from day one.

Personally I’ve enjoyed watching Studenič adjust to North American hockey. He is a very competitive who wants the puck on his stick as often as possible. He’s accelerates very quickly, and is able to burn unprepared defenders. Very slick hands and a willingness to rip the puck off from a variety of angles. I like Studenič heading into a young, rebuilding environment with the Devils. Give him one more season in the OHL with a Bulldogs team that should be contenders next season in the Eastern Conference, and then a season of AHL seasoning. Quality project pick by Ray Shero & Co.
